The first handwritten note in the left hand margin reads: "MacBeth" - I'm making an obvious reference to the Scottish play here with her desperately scrubbing her hands. Although in this case, the delusion is watered down a bit because her hands actually are a mess, but the frantic feeling of needing to be cleansed is what I was after. To the right of the MacBeth notation are a couple of squiggly lines - if you're not familiar with script supervision notation - this is it (if you are familiar - you'll notice that this is a bastardized version of my own making - sorry to you pros out there). Each of these notations refer to a particular shot: 12B, 12A and 12 (14 further down the page). The arrows show what area of the script that particular shot covered. If I had also noted here the insert shots that we did of the scrub brush on her hands, which might | |
have been slated 12e, the arrow would only cover the stage direction talking about the brush on her hands. The idea here is to be able, at a glance, to see what has been shot and what areas of the scene have been covered from what angles. It's a great system that I am only somewhat aware of. The second notation on the margin is: "New shot" - for here, I had a second place where the cockroach was supposed to appear. I already had a fantastic shot of the roach that I was going to put in earlier and I didn't want a second, weaker shot of the same roach, so I noted that I needed a new shot here. As it turned out, I chose no new shot for this spot but instead chose to link the previous shot and the next of her looking at herself in the mirror without adding an unnecessary cut-away. |
